Click on the "Recording" icon 
in the GUI-Browser.
You are now recording in the so called "recording window".
Use "zoom" at the left bottom, to adjust its size.
The recorder will add an action whenever you click on an element in the page. The type of action is selected via the dropbox at the top. Thus, both clicks and checks can be recorded.
You can also record an action via the right button menu.
With "auto"-seleced, a useful action is choosen automatically (click or drag).
